Mixing up Constantine I and the Constantinopolis-commemorative series
Lot 1689
Constantine I, 307/310-337. Follis (Bronze, 16 mm, 2.45 g, 7 h), a contemporary imitation of an issue from Treveri, after 330. CONSTANTINVS AVG Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Constantine I to right. Rev. TRS Victory standing front, head to left, placing her right foot on prow, holding scepter in her right hand and resting her left on shield. Cf. RIC 486 (for obverse, but with differing legend breaks) and RIC 523 (for reverse). The reverse struck slightly off center, otherwise, very fine.

From the Tetrarchy Collection, formed over the past twenty-five years.

This interesting imitation mixes up an obverse of Constantine I (RIC 486) with the Constantinopolis reverse from the commemorative series (RIC 524).
